Filmmaking holiday programme

Show Me Shorts is delighted to present a Filmmaking School Holiday Programme for tamariki aged 8-13 years old, and in year level 4 - 8 in Auckland.

Our team will be working with a group of children to make a short film together and learning along the way.

During the July school holidays of 2024 we will be running this course in Devonport Community House, Devonport and Parnell District School, Parnell.

During the course your children will be guided to learn valuable filmmaking skills such as directing, acting, camera operating, lighting, costuming and making props. They will get creative with hands-on exercises, testing ideas, practicing cooperation and building confidence.

This course is facilitated by a registered teacher and a minimum of two adults will be present at all times. Our team has first aid training, and years of experience working with children and making movies.

The programme runs Monday to Friday from 9am-3pm. Children may be dropped off from 8:30am and must be collected by 3:30pm. Children must attend for the full five days.

All filmmaking equipment will be supplied, including cameras, lighting and sound recording gear. Some props and costumes may need to be sourced or made by the children as homework. Those children cast as the actors may also need to work on learning their lines at home.

The cost of the programme is $295.00. Places are on sale now, click the links below.

The short films made during this course will screen at a red carpet premiere as part of a collection of Whānau Friendly short films at The Vic Devonport cinema in October.

Places are limited, so we recommend booking today. Any questions, you are welcome to reach out to our Education Manager Olivia Muliaumaseali'i - education@showmeshorts.co.nz

Here’s what some kids have said about the programme:

‘It’s been a really fun programme. I’ve learned a lot about what’s behind making a film. It’s not just get in and do it, there’s a lot of planning’ – Poppy Ward

‘I’ve learned about sharing my opinion enthusiastically and team work. I liked making new friends and learning to enjoy my work’ - Ajay Kumar

‘I learned about acting and how to find meaning in the words’ – Grace Chen

‘I’ve enjoyed making new friends, and learning how to memorise a script’ – Shakira Ali

You can view the previous films that have been made as part of this programme below. 90% of both short films were produced and filmed by our tamariki/children from the Devonport and Parnell areas.

Thanks to The Vic Devonport for hosting our red carpet premiere of the films made.
