Showcase of NZ shorts in China
Show Me Shorts Films Screen at Beijing Film Academy
A selection of short films from Show Me Shorts has been presented at the first of three screenings organised by the New Zealand Embassy in China, with assistance from our collaborator Zhang Chunjing.
The inaugural event took place at the Beijing Film Academy, widely regarded as China's most prestigious film university and one of the leading film schools in the world. Students were introduced to contemporary New Zealand storytelling through a programme featuring Search for Hawaiki, Cold Feet, Lao Lao, Lao Le, Time Tourists and Oranges and Lemons.
According to the New Zealand Embassy, the films were exceptionally well received. Survey results showed that 70% of attendees rated the programme as excellent, while 97% said the films made them more curious about New Zealand.
These screenings provide a valuable opportunity to share New Zealand culture with international audiences while showcasing the creativity and diversity of New Zealand's filmmaking talent. We are delighted to see these stories resonating with emerging filmmakers and students in China and look forward to the next two screenings in the series.
