Awards Criteria

Here is a list of all the criteria for each award category, for reference by filmmakers. Note that music videos are only eligible for the Best New Zealand Music Video Award & People’s Choice Award. Films entered in the Out of Competition section (e.g. those available online) are only eligible for the People’s Choice Award. International films are only eligible for the Best International Film Award and the People’s Choice Award.

BEST FILM AWARD

  • The Director or Producer is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident, and…

Your film must meet two of these four fundamental criteria:

  1. At least three different key collaborator roles are New Zealanders or are New Zealand residents
    • Director
    • Producer
    • Writer
    • Editor
    • Lead Actor
    • Production Designer
    • Cinematographer/DOP
  2. The film is shot in New Zealand
  3. The story is based in New Zealand
  4. Post-production was carried out in New Zealand

STARNOW BEST ACTOR AWARD

  • The Actor is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident

PANAVISION BEST CINEMATOGRAPHER AWARD

  • The cinematographer is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident

FINAL DRAFT BEST SCREEN PLAY AWARD

  • The Writer is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident
  • A copy of the script must be sent to Show Me Shorts by 1 October 2016

DEGNZ BEST DIRECTOR AWARD

  • The Director is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident

DEGNZ BEST EDITOR AWARD

  • The Editor is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident

NZFC SPECIAL JURY PRIZE

  • Prize winner must be a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident

BEST NEW ZEALAND MUSIC VIDEO AWARD

  • The Director or Producer is a New Zealander or a New Zealand resident, and…

BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM AWARD

  • Your film does not qualify as a New Zealand short film as per the Best Film Award criteria above.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

  • All films and music videos shown in the Show Me Shorts Film Festival 2016 are automatically eligible to be voted for by our audience and compete for this award.
