A special welcome from the Prime Minister

Jacinda Ardern is a regular guest at Show Me Shorts Film Festival. Here’s a special welcome message from our Prime Minister:

“If a week is a long time in politics, then 13-years of Show Me Shorts is a tribute to the passion of a dedicated crew of believers.

What began as an Auckland-only event has since grown to become our leading international short film festival, with screenings in some 25+ venues around the country.

You only need to look at the names of some of the award-winning alumni – Jackie van Beek, Tammy Davis, and Cohen Holloway to name just a few – to know Show Me Shorts plays a big role both for emerging and existing filmmakers. Many have gone on to make their careers in short film and achieve major successes, both here and globally.

Our reputation for high-quality cinema and screen production has rightly put New Zealand on the world map. It’s a vibrant industry and as Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, it is wonderful to see the New Zealand Film Commission among the many supporters of Show Me Shorts Festival, helping connect audiences with a diverse range of films from around the globe.

I believe it is essential that everyone can access a range of cultural experiences so it is gratifying to know that thanks to the Show Me Shorts team and its supporters, fresh filmmaking talent will again be showcased on our big screens.

I am sure audiences will be impressed by this year’s line-up. I know I always am! Enjoy.”
