This year we have two opening night events, which will be held at The Capitol in Auckland and The Paramount in Wellington
The Auckland Opening Night and Awards Ceremony marks the official opening of the 2011 festival. Here, the winners in all eight prize categories will be announced for the first time and the winning films played. The award categories are:

- Kodak Best Film
- Best Student Film
- Panavision Best Cinematographer
- Script to Screen Best Screen Play
- SDGNZ Best Director
- SDGNZ Best Editor
- StarNow.com Best Actor
- Special Jury Prize
The Wellington Opening Night will screen the winning short films from all award categories.

Each of the opening night events will begin with complimentary drinks before the winning films are played. Festival organisers will attend, along with winning filmmakers and industry representatives
Opening Night and Awards Ceremony – Auckland
8:00pm, Thursday 3 November at The Capitol
Tickets are $20 and include a complimentary glass of wine. Meet the festival organisers, filmmakers and their stars, with additional refreshments provided by our partner VnC Cocktails.
Wellington Opening Night
7:30pm, Thursday 10 November at the Paramount.
Tickets are $20 and include a complimentary glass of wine.
