Festival underway- opening tonight in Wellington!

We’re well underway into this year’s festival and it’s been a fantastic ride so far. We kicked things off in style at The Rialto Auckland Opening Night & Awards Ceremony at The Civic in Auckland. Special thanks to the staff of The Civic, MC Te Radar, our Judges, and everyone who came out to celebrate some truly outstanding short films and their creators. It really was a milestone event for Show Me Shorts and NZ short film. You can find a few photos from the night below, and more on our facebook page.

Our Auckland-based team has been having a blast attending screenings at The Capitol, which continue until Nov 19. It’s hard to beat a night out with friends that includes a cheap and cheerful dinner at one of the lauded dumpling houses in the neighbourhood and a screening of great shorts from NZ and around the world.

We’ve also had great feedback so far from our Education events. We’re very excited about the fresh script ideas under development by our attendees at this year’s Short Film Lab. Our Auckland Short Film Talk was another highlight, bringing film makers and lovers together.

But wait, there’s more!

We’re starting our wider NZ tour today, stretching from Matakana to Stewart Island. Our Rialto Channel Wellington Opening Night opens the festival in NZ’s capital and a major hub for filmmakers tonight at Paramount.  Wellingtonians also have an opportunity to attend the Wellington Short Film Talk on Monday 17 November at the Yoobee School of Design to see Loner, Coconut, and In the Rubbish Tin and interact with their creators.

We also open today in Palmerston North, Christchurch, and Oamaru! Be sure to check out our programme for a screening near you, wherever you may be in Aotearoa.

If you’ve attended a screening, we’d also love to hear back from you via our 5 minute survey. You can vote for the Wendy’s People’s Choice award and you’ll go in the draw for one of four prize packs valued at $300, courtesy of our friends at MediaWorks and Wendy’s.

Hope to see you soon in a theatre near you!
