Entries Now Open for 2021
Kia ora and welcome to Show Me Shorts – Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading international short film festival. We are now calling for entries to our sixteenth edition, set to take place at 30 cinemas nationwide during 1-21 October 2021.
Each year our programmers curate a selection of the best short films from Aotearoa and around the world, plus some of the top local music videos. We prioritise cinematic narrative-style films with strong audience appeal, as well as films that are making their premiere in our festival.
Show Me Shorts is both a travelling festival that screens at 30 cinema locations, and a hybrid festival, so will also include screenings of select short films online (geo-blocked to allow only New Zealanders to watch them).
We launch the festival with a glamorous opening night in Auckland where many world premieres are screened. An awards night follows where a range of prizes are presented to the top films. There is a second opening night event in Wellington and a third in Christchurch – so many parties! We also provide professional development and networking opportunities for aspiring short film makers through our Screenwriting Lab, Short Film Talks, Filmmaker Resources and various masterclasses.
What kind of films are we looking for?
We are looking for short films 2-20 minutes long, from Aotearoa and around the globe. New Zealand music videos between 1-10 minutes long are also invited to submit.
Short films can be any genre. We accept animation, documentary, comedy, horror, drama and everything in between. We do have a preference for cinematic narrative-style films with strong audience appeal, as well as films that are making their premiere in our festival.
