Entries now open for 2022

It is no small achievement that Show Me Shorts is still here for our 17th festival – a milestone less than 1% of festivals internationally achieve. Not only that, but we have been recognised as one of the top 20 short film festivals in the world by the prestigious MovieMaker magazine. What a great way to kick off our call for entries in 2022.

Entries for our 2022 season are now open.

Show Me Shorts is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading international short film festival. We are Oscar-qualifying, and consistently rated by filmmakers as one of the top 50 best reviewed festivals on FilmFreeway. As a charitable trust run mostly by volunteers we exist for the love of cinema. We celebrate excellence in filmmaking through our screenings and awards.

Our programming team can’t wait to experience all of the wonderful creations by filmmakers from Aotearoa and around the world. We believe that in tumultuous times everyone needs art more than ever to reflect our experiences, distract and entertain us. To help us process our feelings, to explore our fears, hopes and dreams.

We invite you to submit your short film to us via FilmFreeway.

Submitting your short film

We are looking for short films 2-20 minutes long, from Aotearoa and around the globe. New Zealand music videos between 1-10 minutes long are also invited to submit.

Short films can be any genre. We accept animation, documentary, comedy, horror, drama and everything in between. We do have a preference for cinematic narrative-style films with strong audience appeal, as well as films that are making their premiere in our festival.

Submissions are processed via FilmFreeway.
